Screencasts – Show how it’s done!

A “screencast” or “video screen capture” is a digital recording of computer screen output, usually containing audio narration. It is essentially a movie of the changes over time that a user sees on his monitor. A Screencast is easy to create with the help of a wide range of softwares like Jing, Captivate, Camstudio, Camtasia, etc.

Screencasts are becoming increasingly popular in the world of training. They give you the ability to bring the classroom feel to a media presentation that can be delivered over the Internet. For example, say you need to train your end user on the use of your latest software product. You can create a screencast, demonstrating in detail each aspect of the software. In such a scenario, screencasts can not only help quickly train your customers but also add value to your product.

There are several advantages of screencasts from both the learner’s perspective as well as the trainer’s. Here are some

screencasts allow learners to learn by example, seeing every step in great detail

The ability to pause and rewind lets learners use it at there own pace

They allow the trainers to explain in detail what may be more confusing when delivered in audio or the written word

Even though screencasts lack the interactivity levels of some of the other modes of training, they can do the trick when you need to create effective training content in a short amount of time.
